Seattle Outings- The Ferry and the Ballard Locks

This weekend we finally went out! It seems like we have spent the last/first month we have been here unpacking and running errands and Soren studying. So for what seems like the first time in years, we went on some REAL dates. :)
Friday night we forgot our camera, but we rode the Kingston-Edmonds Ferry and went to dinner on the Kingston side. Unfortunately it was dark when we finally found the ferry and but we still rode it. Most people ride the ferry for transportation purposes but we played the tourists and stood on the decks looking for animal life. When we got to the other side we found a little Italian place where we ate seafood linguine in honor of our new oceanside residence. We rode the ferry back and went home to watch a movie. I felt very romantically and socially fulfilled.

Today, Sunday we went down to Seattle to see the Ballard Locks. The Locks are the canals where the boats come in from the sea to the lake. The locks are where the boats come in so far and then they close the lock and raise the water level. I guess it brings the boats into the lake where the water level is higher than the ocean. They also have the salmon ladder which is where the salmon swim up river every year. Apparently if you go at the right time of year you can see tons of salmon and sea lions chowing down on them. I was hoping for more of a show, but we didn't see much wildlife. The water was really pretty and it was sure amazing to see the yachts and sail boats.
